I have some friends in my neighborhood that just completed a Sprint Triathlon. They worked super hard for it and on the big day, they asked me to photograph it. When they were finished, they said they would never, ever do it again. That it was awful.
Well, they lied. They are doing another one in July and have convinced Eric and I to do it with them. I get butterflies in my stomach just thinking of the big day. My hands start sweating and I feel out of breath for a second.
I am not so much concerned for the swimming or the bike. I can swim forever and ever. It's my favorite thing to do and I try to do it at least three or four times a week. I know I can do the bike, it won't be easy, but I know I can do it. I can handle a spin class with the only issue being a sore booty. As long as I train well for the bike, I will be fine.
It's the run. I can't run. I HATE to run. HATE it more than life itself. I try to love it. I went through a little spurt a few months back where I was running with the goal to get better and start to love it. I ended up quitting because I just hate it so much. I can't do it. I can run a mile, but I am DYING at the end of that mile.
So, I know I really need to focus on that part of my training. I think I'm going to join some Tri training message boards and get some advice on how to train for the run.
Anyone in other states want to train with me and do a Tri in their area? Anyone?
I am training for a sprint tri myself. I will be participating in one in 3 weeks in Austin. I hope to do more.
GO girl. I'm in the Dallas area, by the way.

Hi, just found you through Sundry on twitter. I have been doing sprint triathlons for a long time and always get nervous, each and every time! I find that talking to the other people while I'm waiting for the race to start always helps. There are always a lot of people who are doing it for the first time, so you won't be alone, no matter what race you're doing. But you'll be fine! And remember that you can always just walk during the run part. You've got a leg up on most people who are scared of the swim! If they can't do it and have to be pulled out, they are out of the race. If you have to walk, you won't be disqualified. I try to make sure I'm near the markers so I can see where I am in the water -- it sucks to veer way off course and have to swim all the way back. Have a great time and enjoy it! And after you'll be a triathlete, which is a terrific feeling. Good luck!
